The moment you arrive you will notice the smiling faces of the local indigenous Ni-Vanuatu people. Vanuatu is known as the “Friendly Face of the Pacific”. Visitors can expect to receive a warm welcome and will enjoy friendly laid back hospitality. A strong French and Australian influence is present with many expatriates calling Vanuatu home.
Vanuatu is a haven for those looking for a quiet escape without compromising the benefits of modern conveniences. The capital, Port Vila, offers a relaxed life-style, excellent dining facilities, and a wide range of outdoor activities from scuba-diving to various water-sports, jungle river excursions, golf, bush-walking, sailing, outstanding game and sport fishing and much, much more.
While many visitors are happy to spend their time around the picturesque harbour of Port Vila, the more adventurous can fly to one of Vanuatu’s more remote islands, each of which has a unique identity in the South Pacific.
The tropical climate and warm cobalt currents provide anglers with a range of species to target. From heavy tackle game fishing for blue marlin, casting a lure or fly for jacks, or reef fishing for coral trout, Vanuatu offers a fishing trip for anglers of all interests. A group of 83 islands means the majority of the best locations are found on lee shores, meaning miles of calm water fishing. Vanuatu is one of the few destinations where you can target large blue marlin and other blue water pelagics close to shore.
Vanuatu offers some of the most spectacular sport fishing grounds found anywhere in the world. Canyons close to shore, expansive reef systems, underwater volcanoes, sea mounts and the islands themselves make Vanuatu the perfect blue water angling destination!
Blue Marlin congregate along the edge of a canyon known locally as "The Marlin Highway". It is not uncommon to release up to 4-5 fish per day in season making them not only a heavy tackle target but a real possibility on light tackle or fly. Apart from the large number of blues encountered, there is the added advantage of being able to fish for them in relatively calm sea conditions. Vanuatu, being an island chain of 83 islands provides numerous lee shores with deep canyon drop offs within close proximity of land. Whether you base your stay on land or fish on our one of live on board adventures you won’t have to travel far to hook one of Vanuatu’s blues.
Vanuatu has a lot more than rampaging billfish on offer. Light tackle and saltwater fly anglers have reason to look towards Vanuatu as a serious sport fishing destination.
Sort after game fish include wahoo to 40kg, yellowfin tuna to 80kg, big sailfish to 85kg and dogtooth tuna from 12kg pups to unstoppable 100kg monsters. Then there are mahi mahi, giant trevally, red bass, coral trout, big jobfish and mangrove jack as well as a host of bottom dwelling species.
