Three grander blue marlin were caught last season with one being weighed in at 1094lb. In season blue marlin congregate along the edge of a canyon known locally as "The Marlin Highway". It is not uncommon to release up to 4-5 fish per day in season making them not only a heavy tackle target but a real possibility on light tackle or fly. Apart from the large number of blues encountered, there is the added advantage of being able to fish for them in relatively calm sea conditions. Vanuatu, being an island chain of 83 islands provides numerous lee shores with deep canyon drop offs within close proximity of land. Then there are mahi mahi, giant trevally, red bass, coral trout, big jobfish and mangrove jack as well as a host of bottom dwelling species. With so many islands to fish, no matter what the weather does there is always a productive lee shore, making fishing Vanuatu as comfortable as it is exciting.
