Ocean Blue 2 was booked flat out and put in some great days inshore on sails, wahoo and school size yellowfin. A small black marlin was the highlight of the period, taking a small yellowfin lure on a 10kg outfit, after a two hour battle the fish finally parted the light line at the boat.
The start of October brought nice weather and we took a live on board charter out in search of broadbill. This overnight swordfish adventure headed to the Erromango sea mounts, 40 miles offshore of Port Vila. No swordfish were tallied, but the following morning we found the billfish! We tagged and released a black marlin on a 50stw outfit, this was immediately followed by putting a tag in a 100kg Blue. All anglers had a go in the chair with a double hook up on blue marlin! Only one fish stay hooked however; a nice 250kg blue was pinned. This hot action took place in a span of two hours in the days first light, and if we stayed the day, who knows how many marlin we would have caught! The next day we headed out with a novice angler who was lucky enough to make her first ever game fish a blue marlin. This spunky 60kg male was caught and tagged in the marlin highway which has been producing exceptional angling for marlin all month. Our live onboard charters are now heating up, with big plans to fish the Northern Islands in the next 8 weeks, we’ll keep you posted!
