January 15th was a very memorable day and started with local junior angler Angus Malcolm hooking up to a big sailfish. This was shortly followed by 15 year old Hannah Dawson who battled a estimated 300kg Black on 37kg line for 2 hours before the big fish broke the line 50 meters from the boat.
Finally 11 year old Connor Seeley caught a 5.5 Kawa Kawa Tuna, a local record, and for a while we thought she had a world record only to find out a larger fish was captured in 2005. On January 25th John Smits from Ontario, Canada caught the areas first Black Marlin of the year while fishing aboard ‘Ocean Blue’. The fish was tagged and released estimated at 200kg. A great effort all round by our January anglers and definitely a fantastic start to 2006! |
