Nathan Billing from QLD chartered Ocean BLue 2 for six days early in the month and was lucky enough to land 22 wahoo on fly in only 3 hours! Nathan's mate Ryan also caught his first blue marlin on day one of their charter. After 2 hours of fighting Ryan tagged the blue, a 140kg beauty on 25kg line class! Our live on board charters have also been extremely successful up around the Santo waters with two blues in the 250kg class tagged last month, meaning the big girls have well and truly arrived.
Matt Watson from New Zealand’s ‘The Fishing Show’ recently commissioned Ocean Blue for a six day live on board shoot fishing from Port Vila up to the northern island of Santo. Angler Graham McKenzie joined this charter and recorded numerous firsts including black marlin, wahoo, dogtooth tuna, and mahi mahi. The underwater footage taken throughout the trip should be remarkable, and the two part show will air next year on national television in New Zealand.
Speaking of firsts, New Zealanders Andrew Pearce, Tanya Naylor, and Andrew Grootjans all recorded their first blue marlin each over a two day span while fishing aboard Ocean Blue. Tanya’s blue would have been a local Vanuatu female record but she opted to tag the fish and let it live another day instead. It’s been a magic month; can’t wait for the next one! |
