They started their charter at the island of Santo on Feb. 20th and fished their way north to the breathtakingly beautiful Bank Islands, where flat calm seas made for perfect conditions for pulling teasers. By the end of the trip the Longs would place claims on 7 pending world records!
Sandy being a top gun with 6 records, (dogtooth on, 8, 12, 16, and 20 lb tippet and wahoo on 16,and 20lb tippet). With the acceptance of Sandy’s records she’ll move into the top 3 female fly fishing anglers in the world! David won honours of the most impressive capture; a 35.0kg wahoo on 16lb test tippet (the largest wahoo ever caught on a fly). The huge fish took 3 hrs and 20 minutes to get along side of Ocean Blue. The first initial run burned off all but 10 meters of the 400 meters of backing almost spooling David!
In over 30 years of pursuing game fish throughout the world this wahoo was the most impressive capture I have ever witnessed! Wahoo I believe rank up there in the top 3 or 4 toughest game fish to tackle on a fly rod and this fish proved worthy of the number one spot! Ocean Blue... it is nothing but pure MAGIC!!!
