To be honest, I was a little worried at first about booking a trip with 4 other people I had never met before but after 10 minutes on board the boat with Carl from Tamworth along with Sam, Rob and David from the Gold Coast, I knew I was in for a very funny trip.
Corky the skipper and his deckhand Sennick made us feel very welcome from the moment we met them. I have fished in various locations with some of the so called 'best skippers in the world' and these guys aren't a patch on Corky. I was constantly impressed by his attitude towards making the trip a memorable experience for all involved and have never met a skipper more determined to find marlin for his clients. Sennick couldn't do enough to help us and wow can this guy wire a marlin.
The boat was set up perfectly for extended periods on board with plenty of storage space. The tackle was all good quality and didn't miss a beat over the 6 days. The meals on board were great and there was always something to munch on during the day as well as plenty of ice cold drinks. I must also mention Corky's morning espresso coffee; this got the day started just nicely for all.
Now for the fishing. I fished in Hawaii for 3 days last year in search of a blue marlin only to strike out. By 2.00pm on our second day, Sam and myself had tagged a blue each. The tuna fishing we experienced was just amazing, I have never seen so many free jumping yellowfin in my life and doubt I ever will again. The fishing was so hot we found ourselves fishing late into the night at each anchorage. By the end of the trip we had caught the following:
3 x Blue Marlin
1 x Sailfish
25 x Yellowfin Tuna
12 x Wahoo
3 x Mahi Mahi
3 x Reef Sharks
I have friends that after seeing my photos and video footage will be interested in coming along next time. I will certainly be booking another one of these trips with Carl next year. I would highly recommend fishing with Ocean Blue in Vanuatu to anyone looking at booking an overseas fishing trip.
Please feel free to pass on my contact details to anyone who would like to know more the Ocean Blue fishing experience.
Kindest regards,
Luke Rendall
